The combined conference of the American Society of Mining and Reclamation and Billings Land Reclamation Symposium is scheduled for the week of May 30 - June 5, 2009 in Billings, Montana. It will be held at the Billings Crowne Plaza Hotel (1-800-588-7666). The combined conference will provide a forum for the dissemination of information and discussions that may lead to change and innovations in public policy, mining, reclamation, and land management issues through research, field tours and workshops. TECHNICAL SESSIONS: Results of more than 100 research/demonstration studies relating solutions and approaches implemented during the management of mined lands will be presented in the following areas: Revegetation, Reclamation Engineering, Hydrology, Geochemistry, and Aquatic and Wildlife Habitat. POTENTIAL WORKSHOPS: Short Courses and Workshops will be presented in the following tentative areas: Invasive Species Management on Reclaimed Lands; Trend Analysis in Environmental Decision Making; Remote Sensing Applications in Land Reclamation; Soil Ecology; Stream Channel Design; Riparian Reclamation; Geostatistics; Geomorphic Landscape Design; Ecological Risk Assessments; and Sampling and Analysis Strategies. POTENTIAL FIELD TOURS: Potential Pre-Conference activities include six unique field tours varying from one day to two and a half days. Areas of interest include watershed restoration, wetland mitigation, active and abandoned hard rock mining, coal bed methane development, and active and abandoned coal mining operations. Field tour locations include Kendall Mine, Spring Creek, Watershed, Roundup Area, Stillwater Mine, Big Horn Mine, Butte Area, and the Pryor Mountains. Evening discussions will follow the field tours. |
